Lauren S. decided that she would like to donate as many toys as we could (as a school) to those less fortunate. This was her way of wanting to celebrate the holidays and her birthday. How great is that?!?

Science Website
Since we are observing the night sky, I found a fun website that posts some amazing images from space. Here is an image of the eclipse on November 3rd.
Here is the link so you can check out cool images from space as often as you would like! http://www.space.com/34-image-day.html I will also attach the link in the Science folder. Enjoy!

Welcome to Ms. Larson's Third Grade Class 2013 - 2014!
Hi! This is my first post for the 2013-2014 school year. I am excited to begin another fun year in the third grade. I hope to continue this blog but to make it even better by adding more pictures and more posts from the members of our class. Student will have the opportunity to contribute to the blog throughout the school year by posting class updates and info, or by commenting from home.
Can't wait to get started!

Field Trip to the DBAP
Last Friday we had a great field trip to the DBAP to watch some ACC baseball. Mrs. McMahon took some great pictures that I wanted to share.
Thank you to all of the students for being on their best behavior and to the parents who chaperoned and made it such an enjoyable event!

Spring Break
Dear 3rd Grade Spring Breakers,
I know Spring Break is all about relaxing, having fun, and not thinking TOO much about school. BUT, if you are looking for some extra points to earn for the last quarter, you get bored at home, or you just love to keep learning and exercising your brain, here are some ways to earn some points while you are on Spring Break.
#1 Create a Math story on Storybird. There is a link on the blog if you forgot how to get there. You can write another multiplication story, a division story, or a fraction story. Remember you are writing word problems. You can use your old story to help you remember what to do.
#2 Study your multiplication facts!! Use flashcards, write them down, etc. Have your parents write me a note or post on the blog that you worked on these at least 8 times over the break.
#3 Design me a picture using the shapes we have learned about in the last few weeks before break. Use squares, rectangles, trapezoids, pentagons, hexagons, etc.
#4 Post on our blog something fun you did over Spring Break. Let me know what you are up to and how much fun you are having!
#5 Your choice. If you (or you and your parents) come up with a project you would like to do, create, etc. using anything we have learned so far this year - go for it. If you aren't sure about it and want to ask me then feel free to email or post on the blog and I will get back to you as soon as I can. This can include Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.
Feel free to choose one, two, three or ALL of the above choices. You can also choose to just relax and not do any of these!
I will grade these based mostly on the effort you have put into these choices. You will get 5 points for completing any of them. However, the more effort you have clearly put into each of these choices, the more points you will receive.
Let me know if you have any questions!

In Math class we are discussing both 2-D and 3-D shapes. We are going to make some 3-D shapes and hopefully attempt some origami. Here is a link if anyone wants to try some origami at home: http://www.origami-resource-center.com/origami-boxes.html

We planted our Wisconsin Fast Plants last Thursday. Nothing has sprouted yet but we hope to see something soon!!!
If you have any extra seeds or pots at home feel free to send them in. We can see what we can grow. Hopefully my bad luck with plants won't spread to the class!! :)
